The original three R’s of the early 1980’s gay coalition, Act-Up—Respect, Recognition, and Resolve—are imprinted on the foreheads of three religious figureheads in three vernaculars: Christ (Respect in Latin), Vishnu (Recognition in Hindi, center), and Buddha (Resolve in Chinese). This optimistic image, part of the group shown inside “Refuge,” anticipates the day when all Homosexuals are given the sanctity deprived them for centuries.
