Double Entendre
4 ½” x 4”
2002
oil on panel, wood
Part of “Il Portico,” this painting depicts a double-cloning of myself after death, as a Caucasian and African American. We are wearing complementary-colored garments, and an albino squirrel, symbolizing nature, is biting our fingertips. Nature is, literally, “biting us back” for what we have done! This painting’s exploration of a fluid identity, shifting between different genders and races, continues to the present day.
